Stēla Launch
It’s finally here! You can go and read what I’ve co-created
with Brian Wood (co-writer), Andrea Mutti (artist), Vladimir Popov (colorist),
and Sal Cipriano (letterer). Stela is a new digital comics platform that’s both
a publisher and an app, envisioned as the HBO Now for comics, featuring a slick
vertical scroll experience. You can now download the app free of charge through
the Apple App Store, and all first chapters of the diverse series are free, so
it’s a no-risk read.
We began writing our alt history story Rome West about a
year ago, and there will be 12 weekly chapters that explore the premise “What
if the Roman Empire came to the New World 1,000 years before Columbus?” If
you’ve enjoyed any of Brian’s historical fiction (Northlanders, Rebels), my
critical writing over the years, or Andrea’s gritty pencils (Rebels, The Girl
With The Dragon Tattoo), I urge you to check it out and tell us what you think!
Justin Giampaoli was an award-winning critic at Thirteen Minutes and Comics Bulletin for over a decade. As a writer, his most notable work includes the self-published crime caper The Mercy Killing with artist Tim Goodyear, introductions and bonus content for New York Times Bestseller DMZ at DC/Vertigo, the alt-history epic Rome West and the sci-fi drama Starship Down, both with artist Andrea Mutti at Dark Horse. Other writing and editorial credits include projects for Boom! Studios, Image Comics, and Madefire. Recently, he edited the geo-political thriller California, Inc. with writer Arthur Ebuen and artist Dave Law at Studio 12-7, and was a panelist at San Diego Comic Con 2024.
