East of West #44 (Image): There was a lot of competition this week with Lazarus back, but with just one issue left to go, this was full of action and a very engrossing read.

Rai #1 (Valiant): The interior art is by Juan Jose Ryp. That's it. That's the reason. The inks appear to be very light, creating a painterly aesthetic that almost looks like Ryp is doing his best Geoff Darrow impression with wide open shots crammed with detail.

For Real #1 (Uncivilized): This is a great package by James Romberger, which includes an original biographical comic about Jack Kirby's time in WWII, as well as essays and analysis of Kirby's work with focus on themes of violence and anti-war messaging.

Die #9 (Image): Creators have been chasing Sandman for years, but I think the literary confluence here might make this a true spiritual successor. It’s also a really hot cover.

The Last God #1 (DC): This is a little too derivative in spots (there's a map of Middle Earth in the back!), but I enjoyed the intriguing, moody nature of the world-building, and I'm curious to see where it goes, hoping it'll go hard at subverting some of the common fantasy tropes it's playing around with.
